02 May Juma Khutbah 26 April 2019
All thanks and praise is due to Allah, we seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and the consequences of our evil actions. Whoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whoever Allah leads astray will never find guidance. I bear witness there is no God but Allah, alone without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.
How quick does time pass? It seems like just yesterday we said goodbye to Ramadan, look how we are greeting Ramadan again. That’s how the actions of this life go around and repeats itself again and again. The years have become like months, months have become like weeks and weeks have become like days. Mankind is greeting the honourable visitor, the great season. Allah has made it like a big field where competitors compete and a track in which the righteous race. And it is a time to let the soul breathe and time to clean the heart. The month of Ramadan is the month of fasting and Quran. Month of standing for prayer and perfecting your worship. The month of Ramadan is the month of goodness and forgiveness. So where are the competitors, and who is prepared to race. And where are the perfecters of worship and the righteous, or where are those who sin and wrong themselves, where are the wasteful and deficient, this is month, and this is the time to repent and this is the time of mercy and forgiveness. And this is the time to control your desires and to return to your Lord Allah.
The Prophet s.a.w said When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of hell are closed, and the shayateen are chained up.
Abu Hurairah narrated that:
the Messenger of Allah said: “On the first night of the month of Ramadan, the Shayateen are shackled, the jinns are restrained, the gates of the Fires are shut such that no gate among them would be opened. The gates of Paradise are opened such that no gate among them would be closed, and a caller calls: ‘O seeker of the good; come near!’ and ‘O seeker of evil; stop! For there are those whom Allah frees from the Fire.’ And that is every night.”
Ramadan is for the worship of Allah. And it is a time to plant the seeds of goodness for your akhirah, is there any farmers to crop the field, it is a chance for those who repent, so where are those who repent. In the fasting there is worship and it is testing. It is to gain taqwa righteousness. And it is a time to discipline your character. And it is to discipline yourselves to answer the beautiful orders of Allah, and to teach your soul with patience and striving on Allahs path.
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous – baqarah 183
Fasting is a path towards Jannah, and a gate from one of its gates.
The Prophet s.a.w said In Paradise there is a gate which is called Rayyan through which only the people who fast would enter on the Day on Resurrection. None else would enter along with them. It would be proclaimed: Where are the people who fast that they should be admitted into it? And when the last of them would enter, it would be closed and no one would enter it.
The best action in this month after the fasting is the recitation of quran.
“I heard ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud saying: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”
The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night during Ramadan to revise the Qur’an with him. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) then used to be more generous than the fast wind.
If we want Allah to accept our deeds and our fasting, we must learn the rulings of fasting. The scholars have said, acts of worship will not be accepted except by two conditions, first condition, sincerity of the worshipper, and what is sincerity, it is cleanliness of the heart. So this means to direct all of your worship towards Allah and to seek His face. Allah will only accept the actions of those who’s actions are directed purely to Allah alone.
Second condition, to do the act of worship according to the sunnah the way the Prophet did it. Allah will not accept any act of worship accept those actions which are done according to the sunnah of the prophet.
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion. Bayyinah 5
Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion. Zumar 3
There is no reward for those who do acts of worship without sincerity to Allah and not according to the sunnah of the Prophet.
“The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Whatever I have commanded you, do it, and whatever I have forbidden you, refrain from it.'”
Allah says in surah An-nisa :65 But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.
The Prophet said: “Whatever I have commanded you do it, and whatever I have forbidden you, refrain from it.”
And Allah said at the end of surah Kahf.
Say, “I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.”
So fear Allah, and have sincere intentions. And make sure you purify your heart for Allah so you taste the sweetness of iman this ramadan.
And be together in goodness and righteousness in this blessed month.
I ask Allah to accept us and purify our intentions.
So fear Allah as He should be feared and The best words are the words of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. Beware of newly-invented matters, for every newly-invented matter is an innovation (Bid’ah) and every innovation is a going-stray. And every going astray is in the hellfire, and upon you is the jama’a for whoever leaves the jama’a is in the fire.
Allah sends His Salat on the Prophet and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on him, and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting.
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the messenger of Allah, and may Allah be pleased with the rightly guided khulafah, Abubakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali and all the companions, and those who followed them in righteousness until the day of Judgment.
Oh slaves of Allah, Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allah, over you, a witness. Indeed, Allah knows what you do.
